About Diesel Exhaust Fluids

Beginning in 2010, cars and trucks sold with diesel engines in the United States must meet new U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) emissions requirements. To meet these requirements, many diesel engine manufacturers have decided to use Select Catalytic Reduction (SCR), an emissions after treatment technology that converts nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the diesel-engine exhaust stream into nitrogen and water vapor, two natural components in the air we breathe.

While SCR technology is not new, its use in trucks and cars in North America is new. SCR converts NOx to nitrogen and water vapor using a catalyst, the heat from the exhaust, and a diesel exhaust fluid (DEF). The fluid, for cars and trucks typically a solution of urea and water, is injected into the diesel exhaust stream, and the heat from the exhaust, the fluid, and the catalyst convert the NOx into the harmless gases.

For the SCR unit to operate properly, the diesel exhaust fluid must meet an exacting performance standard. This standard, published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), is intended to ensure that the diesel exhaust fluid used in SCR-equipped cars and trucks provides the performance required by diesel engine manufacturers.

Does Carson sell Diesel Exhaust Fluids?

Carson can provide your business with a tote for your DEF that can be refilled by us. We offer NEXGEN DEF in the following quantities:

  • 2.5 gallon jugs
  • 275 gallon totes
  • Bulk: 1,000 to 5,000 gallons

Please note that NEXGEN DEF is also available for purchase at our Clackamas cardlock.

NEXGEN DEF is certified by The American Petroleum Institute. This voluntary certification program authorizes diesel exhaust fluid marketers that meet specified requirement to use the API Diesel Exhaust Fluid Certification Mark. This Mark confirms that the diesel exhaust fluids meet the ISO 22241 and DIN70070 requirements which guarantee the best possible performance of the new Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) Systems.
